ABSTRACT
Driving is a visual task. In terms of the visual, cognitive and motor components of tasks discussed in Section 4.2, the driver’s task is to extract information from the environment, to determine what changes in behaviour are necessary and to manoeuvre the vehicle appropriately. Many different aspects of vision are important to driving. Visual acuity, widely used to assess suitability to drive, is only weakly related to driver performance.
