When defining a Supply Chain, you will encounter terms such as:

Sourcing Integrating Connectivity Information Exchange Communication Linkages Logistics

All of these terms are appropriate in describing a Supply Chain. However, they are too generic and too broad to supply a meaningful definition to someone who does not already understand what a Supply Chain is. For the purposes of this book, we will start with a one-word definition of a Supply Chain and then we will build on it to create understanding. That one word is “Movement.” Supply Chains are all about moving things around. Then, building on this one-word definition we need to decide what movements we need to track. And the answer is, “We need to track the movement of resources.”
