Cold is uncomfortable and distracting and can severely reduce manual performance. When the weather is unusually cold, many vulnerable people die. Prolonged feelings of cold discomfort are depressing and low skin temperatures, particularly in hands and feet, as well as strain on the heart and respiratory system, provide a significant thermal challenge.
