ABSTRACT

International standards have become established across the world as practical methods for assessing heat stress, cold stress and thermal comfort in both indoor and outdoor environments. They are developed by panels of international experts and are agreed by a system of voting by member countries who consider not only scientific content and validity but also the practical consequences of their use. This chapter presents current International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for the specification and assessment of human thermal environments, as well as other influential standards produced by national committees and international institutions and professional bodies.
