ABSTRACT

Although many different sorbents have been used for metal and metalloid removal so far, due to unsatisfactory efficiency and high costs of these sorbents, opportunities are still open for finding new environmentally friendly and cost effective sorbents. Recently, great attention has been paid to the sorbents based on natural materials. Thus, as arsenic can strongly bind to Fe containing materials, metalloid removal using new Fe-modified sorbents based on common natural materials was investigated in this study. A novel peat-based anion exchanger was synthesized by graft polymerization and its application in sorption of As(V) from aqueous media was investigated.
