ABSTRACT

When a safety and health professional walks onto a job site, does the safety and health professional know the employment status of each and every individual working on the site? Does this make a difference from a safety and health perspective? Does it make a difference from a legal perspective? Does it make a difference from a management perspective? Let’s examine a typical construction site. Your company or organization may have employees performing work at the site. Contractors will be working at the site with subcontractors hired by the general contractor to perform specific work. Your company or the contractor may have individuals hired through a temporary employment agency to perform specific work activities. All of these individuals are performing various work functions at the worksite. What is the distinction among and between each of these individuals working at the worksite, and how does it impact the safety and health professional is his or her job function?
