ABSTRACT

At the time the EPR paper was written, John Bell was not yet in high

school. The EPR paper was aimed against the Copenhagen (Bohr,

Heisenberg) interpretation and proposed a crucial experiment that

was modified later to make it more feasible. That modified exper-

iment was performed by many groups. Two of these experiments

are described below: that of the Aspect group in France and that of

Zeilinger’s group in Austria. These experimental investigations, their

experimental setup, and theirmeasurement procedurewere already

influenced significantly by John Bell’s suggestions and findings.

The following sections summarize the EPR-Bohr controversy, the

Aspect and Zeilinger experiments, and Tony Leggett’s seminar that

weaved it all together with John Bell’s work. Bell’s work and the

experimental results form the basis for all claims that the EPR paper

is flawed and that Einstein was not right with his negative opinion

about the use of probabilities in science.
