ABSTRACT

In the last chapter, it was realised that the moment of inertia, the mass-weighted squared distance from the axis of rotation, fulfilled the roˆle in rotational dynamics analogous to that of mass in rectilinear mechanics. Here we shall compute four distinctly hoopy1 moments of inertia. A regularity occurring in these [seemingly uncorrelated] results shall be revealed when we develop a particular theorem in Chapter 38.
