A seed grant or foundation grant to support such validation work is often a key first step toward applying for a larger grant designed to use these measurement tools to evaluate etiologic associations between exposures and diseases. For this reason, a proposal to conduct a reproducibility and validity study is typically the first proposal written by a graduate student or early-career faculty.
