ABSTRACT

Confucianism is a profound school of learning founded by the ancient Chinese thinker Confucius (551-478 bc) in the fth century bc. By the second century ad, thanks to the advocacy by inuential ofcials and intellectuals of the Han Dynasty (206 bc-ad 220), such as Dong Zhongshu, Confucianism became central to national ideology. During the historical and social developments of later times, the school would have a profound impact on the Chinese people in terms of their belief, values, culture, economy, and politics.
