Thischapterdiscussesthereproductionofspeechandmusicoverloudspeakersinsmallrooms.Allthethreemethodscommoninroomacoustics, thatis,physical,statistical,andgeometricalacoustics,arerequiredtofully understand the acoustic behavior of the room from the viewpoint of sound reproduction.Thesoundreproductionsystemrequirementstogetherwith theloudspeakercharacteristicsdeterminethedesiredacousticconditions forthelisteningroom.Sinceloudspeakersinteractwiththeacousticsofthe room, the chapter also reviews loudspeaker properties.
