Thegoaloftheacousticaldesignofsmallroomsisinmanycasestocreateoptimumsoundeldsforlistening.Therefore,thepropagationand reectionofsoundhastobeappropriatelyadjusted.Asdiscussedinlater chapters, one part of this optimization process consists of making some reectingsurfacessoundabsorbingordiffusingtocontrolthesoundtransmissionfromthesourcetothelisteningpoint.Thissectionpresentsan overviewofthemostfrequentlyusedsound-absorbingmaterialsandstructures. Chapter 5 discusses the properties of diffusers.
