ABSTRACT

Photonic crystal fibres (PCF) is a relatively new class of optical fibres, using the properties of photonic crystals [1].

In the cross section the PCF has a quartz or glass microstructure with periodic or aperiodic system of microinclusions, usually cylindrical micro-holes oriented along the fibre axis. The defect of the microstructure, corresponding to the absence of one or more elements in its centre, is the core of the fibre, providing a waveguide mode of propagation of electromagnetic radiation.
