ABSTRACT

A 2013 Gartner study found that chief information officers (CIOs) believe that 38% of their workforce will be using personal devices at work by the end of this year. It also found that bring your own device (BYOD) can help reduce costs in some cases. Osterman Research found that in a 500-person company, offering up BYOD can reduce the total costs by 29%. However, even if an employee uses his or her own devices, there are still costs associated with support, training, and service. Thus, a financial analysis needs to be done to justify BYOD just as you would any other technology. In this chapter, we present some typical financial analyses that might be used towards this end.
