When human lymph nodes were studied throughout antisyphilitic treatmcnt, spirochetal forms rapidly disappeared, whereas a granular form of the spirochete persisted. Simon and Mollinedo used a special stain to reveal the granular form but note that certain artifacts cause confusion.73 Fluorescent antibody reactions might be interpreted more easily.
