ABSTRACT

However, workaholism seriously impairs the functioning at the workplace both at short as well as at the long term. On the one hand, one of the immediate negative outcomes of workaholism is its negative inuence on personal relationships at work (Porter 1996) or work family conict (Bakker et al. 2009). On the other hand, the long-term detrimental effects for an individual and organization (Porter 1996) are stress reactions, burnout, decrease in performance, increases in health-and accident-related expenses, and higher turnover rates (Maslach and Jackson 1981; Pines and Aronson 1988).
