ABSTRACT

The most important result of a teachers’ work is a student who learns. This is an obvious statement, which becomes complex when one starts to clarify what leaning means. There are numerous understandings of the concept of learning as well as numerous understandings of its aims. We know that the context of human life and also the context of education have changed dramatically during rst decade of the 21st century. It is not necessary to repeat here the diagnosis of a contemporary globalized world hardly inuenced by the development of technology and hurt by economic, environmental, and social crisis, but it is necessary to be aware of it. That awareness helps to comprehend the challenges arising in front of existing education systems and its main workers: teachers. We will also not discuss the process of learning itself and the aims that should be taken under consideration in the modern education, but we will rather focus on the general conditions of learning and on the way of thinking about teachers, their role, prole, and preparation.
