ABSTRACT

It would take years of reading psychological manuscripts, theses, reports from governmental agencies, and literally sifting through mountains of data to come to a holistic understanding of what makes a player a player. While I can’t claim to know everything about gamers, from years of work in human computer interaction and psychological research intersecting game design and software engineering, I have learned a lot. Again, some heavy psychology material here will be gathered up into a cheat sheet at the end of the chapter.
