ABSTRACT
Gray iron contains 2 to 4% carbon and 1 to 4% silicon by weight, whereas typical nodular iron contains approximately 3 to 4% carbon and 2 to 4% silicon by weight. Therefore, carbon and silicon are the main ingredients in iron, regardless of the type, because of their effects on the microstructure and physical properties of the castings and any metallic bodies.
