ABSTRACT
This effect was discovered in 1888 but it took a long time, until 1970, when the Swiss pharmaceutical company Hoffmann La Roche identified a proper liquid which made this change reliable. Finally, the Japanese electronics industry produced the first digital wrist watches with LCD.
