ABSTRACT

The basics of any stochastic simulation consist of generating a sequence of numbers that are independent and identically distributed with the common uniform distribution in [0,1]. Therefore, the basic ingredient of any stochastic simulation system is the generation of random numbers. Although in nature we have several sources of generating random numbers, to do any systematic analysis of a system, the generation of a stream of random numbers is required. These random numbers are basically generated using computer application software. Since any software package follows predefined algorithms, the computer-generated random numbers are not exactly random in nature. However, the numbers are generated in such a way that those numbers imitate the behaviors of true random numbers.
