ABSTRACT
In this chapter we begin the study of the Galois theory of separable algebras,
starting with the simplest case from the point of view of idempotents: we
assume the base ring has no idempotents except zero and one. As we will see
subsequently, we will be able to use Boolean spectrum techniques to reduce
to this case. We begin by fixing terminology with the following sequence of
definitions.
