Ingestion by the mother of substances with male hormone activity during pregnancy, such as androgenic steroids
taken for ‘body building’ can cause masculinisation of female genitalia.
Tumours in the fetus or the mother that produce androgenic hormones will cause masculinisation of female genitalia.
This occurs with adrenal tumours.
