The relationship between bond stress and slip that Abrams (1913) inferred from his tests of deformed bars is shown in Figure 25.1. The shape of the curve indicates clearly that the distribution of the bond stress along the embedded length is certainly not likely to be anywhere near uniform. And yet, we shall nd that in the design process we assume bond stress to be uniformly distributed along the length of a bar. Figure 25.2 contains three examples of current deformed bars.
