ABSTRACT

A source of great debate in societies throughout the world, both democratic

and undemocratic, is the notion of fairness. Most would agree that fairness

does not mean we are all guaranteed the right to have or do the same thing in

the same circumstance as everyone else. Rather, it often means that everyone

is offered the same opportunity to pursue, to do, to gain, to win, etc. But

fairness can often be just an illusion. We begin with an example.
