ABSTRACT

The previous chapters presented various methods to estimate the way that precipitation is distributed between the different compartments of a drainage basin and the way the resulting groundwater, sub-surface water and surface water is transformed into a hydrograph at the basin outlet. This chapter will present methods designed to estimate the way discharges are propagated through streams, lakes and reservoirs and in particular the way the shape of the hydrograph changes from upstream to downstream. The models used for this are often referred to as reservoir and streamfl ow routing models.
