ABSTRACT

Figure 1.1 in Chapter 1 showed that component specifications and their implementation are responsible for about 30% of device failures. We rarely tell suppliers all they need to know. We often leave out reliability, safety, and durability requirements. Some companies don’t tell suppliers about critical design features and what is critical to quality. What we learned from previous chapters is, if we don’t specify what we want,

then we can get something we don’t want! This chapter will cover these critical needs.
