Problem 1 Using the virtual work principle, determine the equilibrium po-

sition of the system shown in Fig.IV.1. We are given the following data: masses m1 and m2 of the two bodies, the angle α of the inclined plane, and the distance between the top of the inclined plane and the pulley axis. The friction phenomenon and the pulley radius are neglected, while the wire is supposed to be inextensible. It is presumed that during the motion the body of mass m1 remains on the inclined plane, and the body of mass m2 only moves vertically.
