Person-centred and holistic nursing care book
Introduction Person-centred approaches to health care are commonly advocated internationally (Cox 2011) and in the United Kingdom (UK), and the expectation to deliver care that is person centred and holistic is established in both professional and National Health Service (NHS) guidance. This chapter therefore explores the meaning of person-centred and holistic nursing care: working with people in a way that values and respects them as individuals, taking account of their individual needs, preferences and culture. We consider various models of care, with particular focus on areas of practice that have embraced person-centred care. We advise you to follow up with more specific reading on person-centred care in your field of practice.
