ABSTRACT
Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) tunneling machines are nowadays the most used Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). These machines are used in different soils. For tunneling in sand with an EPB shield it is necessary to use a soil conditioner. In most cases foam is used. The properties of the foam mixture and its functionality are investigated by Bezuijen, 2012, 2002, Bezuijen et al., 2005, Thewes and Budach 2010, 2011 and Russo, 2003. Merrit and Mair (2006) have investigated the properties of a foam clay mixture and the influence on the screw conveyer. Talmon and Bezuijen (2002) did this for sand.
