Motown-a city that gave America affordable automobiles and an enduring sound that helped define popular music for decadesbecame the largest city in American history to be stripped of its fiscal powers and
independence. As 2013 came to an end, Detroit had the ignominious honor of being the largest city in American history to seek bankruptcy protection.
