ABSTRACT

If you have the skill to speak, you should have the passion to listen. Alfonso Bucero

Communication is a critical skill for project managers. Some leaders are able to listen but most are always hearing instead of listening. Every time that I think about listening, some images come to my mind regarding the following situation between a project manager and a team member: The team member wants to talk to his project manager because he has a problem or an issue to talk about. The project manager meets him and says, “OK, I’m ready to listen to you. Please tell me about your problem.” The team member starts speaking and the project manager does not switch off his cell phone and he continues typing on his personal computer. The team member feels frustrated.
