ABSTRACT

Many patients with chemical sensitivity have difculty seeing. These patients experience vision problems such as blurring, tunnel vision, and light ashes. They are also bothered by oaters when they are in areas with high pollutant levels such as underground parking garages, conference halls, and public buildings. In addition, some individuals with chemical sensitivity suffer from direct pollutant damage that results in named eye diseases such as glaucoma, iritis, retinitis, optic neuritis, macular degeneration, and cataracts. Attention to the powerful effects of pollutant exposure on individuals with chemical sensitivity not only will result in treatment of the various xed-named eye diseases that may result in select cases but also will often eliminate altogether development of these diseases. It is now clear that pollutant-induced oxidative stress can alter any areas of the nervous system of the eye, its attachments, and its components.
