ABSTRACT

The main purpose of added binding phases is to accelerate the binding process. Ca-aluminates in general react faster than Ca-silicates and Ca-phosphates. To improve early hardening glass ionomer systems can be used. The proposed CBBC systems have in general favourable biocompatible properties, so additional CBBCs do not change the established biocompatibility of the main binding phase. An attractive additive to speed up the setting and hardening of CBBC systems is glass ionomer systems. These systems contribute to early hardening due to the formation of cross-linked PAAs. Ca and Al ions cross-link the PAA, resulting in early solidification [3].
