ABSTRACT

Glucose tolerance tests-In a study of the association between hyperglycemia and relative hyperinsulinemia, standard glucose tolerance tests were administered to three groups of subjects: 13 controls, 12 non-hyperinsulinemic obese patients and 8 hyperinsulinemic patients (see Zerbe, 1979, and Zerbe and Murphy, 1986). Plasma inorganic phosphate (PIP) measurements were obtained from blood samples taken 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours after a standard-dose oral glucose challenge. Part of the data is given in Table 8.1. The question of interest: Do the three groups differ in their responses to the glucose challenge test?
