ABSTRACT

PMI (2013) defines an executive sponsor as a senior executive who is responsible for the success of an authorized program activity. The executive sponsor is a program governance role; however, program governance, as a subject, is a relatively emergent concept. This book, which you have in your hands, can be considered as one of the first books on this subject. This contradiction that exists between the importance of the governance role as a key factor for program success and its lack of visibility in literature is incomprehensible. It could be due to the literature on program governance being hidden under other themes such as portfolio management, steering committees, and governance boards; however, there is limited literature available on the subject of program governance. Thus, it is important to define this term, so that the foundation of this concept can be established for the coming sections.
