Social media enable network citizens to share health information and search for information about rare diseases that local doctors may not be able to help them with. The keywords used in each search inquiry can also be a crowdsourcing resource for the monitoring of epidemic diseases such as the swine flu. Social media are powerful tools for ambient diagnoses.
