ABSTRACT

The general wave equation ties together information about the shape of the wave, and velocity and accelerations of the particles within the medium through which the wave is travelling.

If two wave functions y1(x, t) and y2(x, t) both satisfy the general wave equation, then so does the resulting combined function y1 + y2.
