ABSTRACT

The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in building projects is accelerating. Although we see that the adoption of BIM is not in all countries the same, in general the acceptance is growing. In Europe we see that e.g. Scandinavian countries, United Kingdom and the Netherlands are already using BIM in many projects. But also in other countries in Europe the awareness of BIM is growing and first projects have been done with BIM. BIM is not just creating 3D models, BIM is managing the project information across multiple participants and multiple disciplines. Storing and connecting building information and making it accessible for all people involved in a project allowing people to collaborate and coordinate more effective with a common goal in mind and to avoid costly and time consuming mistakes in the building process.
