This chapter is an introduction to Investigative Interviewing, a growing field from the 1970s in a range of areas including psychology, insurance investigation, market research interviews, workplace investigations, and police investigative interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects. Three areas of particular interest have been the significance of rapport building, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques for successful interviews, and strategies available to interviewers.
