ABSTRACT
Marble forms from metamorphism of carbonate-rich sedimentary rocks, such as limestone or dolostone. To be classified as marble the rock must have more than 50% carbonate minerals (NAGM, 2004). Marbles can vary widely in appearance, depending on their original composition and sedimentary layering, metamorphic conditions, the amount of deformation, and the amount of post-deformation annealing.
