ABSTRACT

Natural resources, such as food and water, are not inexhaustible. These resources should meet the needs of the current and future generations. The 2013 World Economic Forum Global Risks report included food shortage crises as one of the top five global risks in 2012.* Additionally, this report included water supply crises as one of the top five global risks between 2012 and 2013.† This chapter examines the threat of food and water insecurity in various areas of the world and what it means for transnational security. The fight over natural resources by certain countries is also examined. Finally, this chapter considers access to and the availability of nutritious food and clean water as a fundamental human right.
