ABSTRACT

As a result of the uneven distribution of the world’s natural resources, nations have become interdependent when it comes to sources of energy. As such, energy security is a global problem affecting developing and developed nations alike. A shortage of energy could threaten state sovereignty and power while causing security threats, such as riots, instability, physical harm, and even death. This chapter discusses the different sources of energy and current issues in energy security. Special attention will be paid to the energy geopolitics of Turkey and the energy resources in the Persian Gulf.
