Answers Diagnoses: EMQs Answer 25 6) MRI spine: the appropriate investigation is an urgent MRI spine; these are the symptoms of the cauda equina syndrome; without timely intervention, urological function may be permanently impaired. A neurosurgical opinion regarding decompression as a matter of urgency is required if cauda equina syndrome is confirmed to give the patient the best chance of recovery.
