ABSTRACT

The region of study (Figure 1.1) is subject to certain commonalities with respect to rainfall that is usually bimodal on an annual basis, with a major peak during summer-early fall months (June-September) and a secondary peak during winter-early spring periods (January-April). There is a trend toward increased precipitation in coastal areas of the gulf coast of northern Florida when compared to that of inland areas. During dry years, however, the maximum rainfall occurs inland (Wolfe et al., 1988). There is, however, considerable spatial variability in rainfall patterns, with distinct differences along relatively short distances.
