ABSTRACT

The new IVDS technology attracted interest from organizations outside the US Army. Many groups were interested in focusing this technology onto their problems, for example, in the areas of plant disease control, animal monitoring, and food source inspections. Two problems, the plights of white nose bats and honeybees were examined further. The honeybees constituted an attractive first environmental sample because of the apparent ease of collecting samples and the possibilities of multiple viruses. The IVDS was designed to determine many viruses from a single sample and a field application was needed to demonstrate efficacy.
