ABSTRACT

Procedure Step 1. The patient is positioned in the dorsal lithotomy position allowing simul

taneous access to the abdomen and perineum. Care is taken to avoid excess pressure on the calves or the lateral aspect of the proximal leg to avoid peroneal nerve injury. The upper extremities are tucked to the patient’s sides. The patient should be securely strapped to the table to allow tilting and manipulation of the operating table. A bean-bag on the operating table is also helpful to stabilize the patient.
