The two key sets of data gathered for the purpose of this survey were percentage or fraction of time spent planning and project success measures. For projects with agile/iterative planning components an index was created:

after the planning phase the total project effort in person-days
The amount of planning done in the planning phase was considered a key dataset. The planning effort index was used as the key measure of this information (more details in Appendix A). After removal of invalid data and outliers, valid agile projects totaled 1,002.
