ABSTRACT

Definition: Composite material is a material system composed of two or more dissimilar constituents, differing in forms, insoluble in each other and physically distinct and chemically inhomogeneous. The resulting product possesses properties much different from the properties of constituent materials. Composite materials, also referred to as composites, are broadly classied as

1. Agglomerated composite materials 2. Laminated composite materials 3. Reinforced composite materials

Grinding wheel is an example of agglomerated composite, sheet moulding compound is an example of laminated composite, and bre-polymeric composite is an example of reinforced composite.
