ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 dealt with material balances on single-and multiunit systems with no chemical reactions. Normally, reactor is at the heart of chemical processes. In this chapter, first the concepts of stoichiometry as it relates to the material balance are discussed. Then, the application of the reactor in reactive systems is formulated. Next, the different types of balances are described, namely, the element material balance method and the molecular species method. As a special application, material balance on combustion systems is thoroughly discussed.
